New Features

Posted in General Announcement

Just a quick question: What new features would you like to see on the IDUG Denver site? Nothing fancy…just some useful information you’d like to have access to.

I’ve been given a couple of job opportunities to mention…and sometimes it would be too late to wait to announce them at the meeting. We still have our old forums online, but I thought we might list job opps here on this site, as well. The only issue is…you will have to email me with the opps (if you have them).

Speaking of forums…what are your preferences for member-to-member communications? We could revive our old phpBB forums, ramp up our sadly neglected Facebook page, our Linkedin page. Something else?

Let us hear, either in the comments or via email, what you’d like to see. Or come talk to me at the next meeting. Thanks, in advance, for your input!

Graphic Designer Needed for Project

Posted in General Announcement

This comes to us from our very own Notetaker Extraordinaire, Erika Barnard…thanks, Erika, for the head’s up!
===================================
We’re seeking a graphic designer for an upcoming project to market our new Training Center and Maintenance Facility for the Fire District (North Metro Fire Rescue). What we’re trying to do is complete at least three pieces (possibly more) that can be interchanged to various target audiences. The pieces would include:

1)  A folder that could be used for either the Maintenance Facility or the Training center
2) A tri-fold brochure on the Maintenance Facility
3) A brochure (possibly more than one) on the Training Center

The Maintenance Facility and the Training Center are located on the same campus, but the targeted audience would be very different from one another. We’d love to drive a lot of people to our web site (we haven’t built up pages on them yet), but then have the traditional marketing materials for individuals truly interested in renting out the site or contracting our mechanics for services.

We were hoping to get started on this project in November - and if possible, complete it by the end of the year.

IF INTERESTED, PLEASE CONTACT:

A great turnout for the August meeting!

Posted in August 2009, General Announcement, Meeting Wrap-Up

We had a great IDUG Denver meeting on Tuesday, August 4th. Considering this seems to be the month of vacations, our turnout was really good…about 25 people. And there’s something to be said for quality over quantity!

Jeff Gamet talked about “The Secret Lives of Fonts.” He gaves us a brief history of fonts on the computer, discussed font management and where fonts “live” on your computer, and gave us links to some little font goodies. The Font Location chart he showed is on the last page of the Meeting Wrap Up Notes. After that, we had our “Panel of InDesign Experts,” which consisted of Jeff Gamet, Barb Binder, and Erica Gamet. We ended up talking about what we like about InDesign, cool tips, favorite new features, and what advice to give someone just starting out in InDesign. It was a fun, casual exchange between the panel and the group. If you liked this format, please let us know and we will do more of them (maybe even with different people!).

We changed up the items auction a little this time and raffled off InDesign and a few other prizes in our “Economy Busting Raffle.” In the end, the copy of InDesign went for a mere $2 raffle ticket (now referred to as the “Golden Ticket”). We’re pleased so many people were able to participate.

Please download the meeting wrap-up notes, or view them on the Adobe site. Also, items that were not auctioned are up for online bidding at the IDUG Denver auction site.

Please join us on October 6th for the next IDUG Denver meeting. We also hope to have some news about our next “Off Month” training session. Thanks to everyone who attended the meeting and we’ll see you in October!
